Your team's decisions, findable again.

Workspace Historian is a Slack agent that turns channel conversations into a living decision knowledge base — captured by AI, approved by humans, and always linked back to the original thread.

Free during beta.

How it works

  1. Invite it to a public channel. Workspace Historian only reads channels it has been explicitly invited to. It never joins channels on its own, never posts to #general by default, and never uses @channel or @everyone.
  2. It detects decisions. The app reads channel history and new messages in real time and uses AI (Groq's GPT OSS 20B/120B) to identify team decisions and the reasoning behind them.
  3. A human approves. The app proposes a structured decision entry — title, summary, reasoning, participants, date, and a link to the original thread. A human curator must approve every entry before it is published. Nothing is auto-published.
  4. Everyone can find them. Browse published decisions in the app's Home tab, or ask questions in Slack's AI agent panel or with the /historian command.

Features

  • Structured decision entries. Every entry captures a title, summary, reasoning, participants, date, and a permalink to the original conversation.
  • Human-in-the-loop by design. A curator reviews and approves every entry before it is published — the AI never publishes on its own.
  • Ask instead of digging. Question answering in Slack's AI agent panel and via /historian, with Slack's Real-Time Search API used to pull in related public-channel context when you ask.
  • Zero-copy data handling. Raw Slack messages are pulled in real time, processed, and discarded — never stored. Only structured decision metadata is kept.
  • No model training on your data. Your Slack data is never used to train any AI model.
  • Always linked to the source. Every answer and entry points back to the original thread so you can verify the context yourself.

A note on AI. Workspace Historian uses AI to generate summaries and answers. AI-generated content can be inaccurate or incomplete — always verify against the linked original conversation before relying on it.

Privacy at a glance

  • Raw message content, files, and attachments are never stored — messages are processed transiently and discarded.
  • Only structured decision metadata is persisted: AI-generated title, summary, and reasoning, channel ID, timestamps, permalink, participant user IDs, tags, and review status.
  • It reads only public channels it has been explicitly invited to. It cannot see private channels or other people's direct messages.
  • Data is retained until you uninstall the app or a curator deletes an entry; everything is purged within 30 days of uninstall.

Plans and pricing

Workspace Historian is free during beta.

Slack's AI agent split-pane experience requires a paid Slack plan — this is a Slack platform requirement. The Home tab and the /historian command work on all plans. Free Slack plans expose roughly the last 90 days of message history; the app respects your plan's limits and does not circumvent them.
